Ruger-57TM 5.7x28mm Semi-automatic Pistol
Designed by FN in response to NATO requests for a round to replace the 9x19mm cartridge, the 5.7x28mm burst onto the scene and immediately turned heads with its extreme velocity and armor-piercing potential. And rightly so—it's an awesome round. But…there is one major issue. There just aren't that many guns that can shoot it.
The choices you DO have are as limited as they are expensive. As much as we love FN, the FN Five-SeveN is spendy, and leaves something to be desired in terms of ergonomics. The Ruger-57 comes in at about half the cost of the Five-SeveN, and is much more shooter-friendly.
It starts with the easy-reach Secure ActionTM trigger. The 5.7x28mm round is very long compared to other pistol cartridges, which necessitates a very wide grip frame front-to-back. This usually makes for a long trigger reach. The Ruger-57 was designed to minimize trigger reach—so you don't have to have hands like Andre the Giant just to operate it. The Secure Action trigger breaks crisply at 4.5-5 lbs., and features a short reset you can hear and feel.
The through-hardened billet sleed slide features lightening cuts to reduce reciprocating mass, which helps to tame recoil for faster follow-up shots. The fiber optic green front sight stands out nicely against the fully adjustable black-out rear for easy target acquisition. If you'd like to add a red dot, the Ruger-57 is drilled and tapped to accept adapter plates (sold separately).
If you've been waiting for your chance to get into the 5.7x28mm, now's the time.
