Rated 3 out of 5 by Gemsbolio from Does the job, but not my preferenceI received a Remington 7400 in .280 Rem from my grandfather a few years back with a several different boxes of ammunition. There was one partial box of the 165-gr. soft point core-lokts amongst them. Seeing as how he was under the opinion that bigger is always better he naturally had the gun sighted in for these. He had shot 1 deer with them, a one shot kill, so there is no question that they will kill, but they have been the least consistent and accurate load that I've put through the gun. The added recoil from the slower moving bullet puts them 1/4" higher at 25 yards than 140/150-gr. loads that I've tried (I can only figure that the added time of the bullet being in the barrel must have caused the barrel to lift.) They also seemed to be a little less accurate than the pointed soft point 140/150-gr. loads.I don't really have anything against these rounds, I have just personally had better luck with pointed soft points, and I feel more confident shooting those at longer ranges.
