Rated 4 out of 5 by D Dalby from This WILL split tough rounds.I ground an edge on the blunt striker and set to on an 18" knotted-beyond-belief round of some Mountain Ash. This stuff had had shrugged off a splitting maul and swallowed wedges. After a few hammer strokes, a split appeared and widened until the Timber Tuff had forced its way completely through and into the chopping block. I then quartered it, knots and all, into neat chunks for the fireplace. This tool works. I was able to quickly go through some of the orneriest wood imaginable. One caveat: the shock transferred to your arms is considerable and left my hands feeling numb for a day afterward. I may wrap the grip with foam.I would heed the advice of letting the weight of the tool work for you and to not grip it too tightly. Easy does it.Use padded gloves and work at waist height with your back straight. Lube the shaft before you start as it gets sticky as soon as the paint begins to wear. Zep 45 took care of that immediately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by rogerssj from Great Tool for the PriceI had a couple of Mulberry trees cut down and asked that the wood be left. I figured I would rent a splitter and finish the job as I am getting a little old to swing the old maul. When I saw this, I thought, what the heck, for that price it's worth a try. When I received it, I thought it was a little heavy. After using it, I was impressed with the ease of splitting this stringy wood. It appears to be well constructed, and is easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BRUCE W from Remarkably solid, simple and durable. No instructions included, however, so here's all you need to know: Remove locking bolt and keep it in your pocket. Avoid chopping off your toes or feet during operation. Replace locking bolt when finished splitting wood. That's it.
