Rated 4 out of 5 by DLTMichigan from Swiss Military Surplus Reserve AxeVery heavy head 3-4#. More of a "Miner's Axe at just under 24". Handle mounted about average into head (slightly crooked). Nice wood handles. Needs to be sharpened before use. Has the thicker blade profile for splitting wood.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Michigan Chuck from Few Better Than ThisI split wood when camping. I wanted an axe big enough to swing once but fairly compact and this is it. A friend chose a lighter axe/hatchet however he had to also buy a hammer to finish his wood splitting. This axe does it on one swing, one handed, most of the time. Swiss quality too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Rick from short handle, miners type ax, full size head, solid toolHead is good quality, maybe about 3-3.5 lbs, with a short handle, like a miners ax.Grain of the wood handle is off, perpendicular to the blade= handle is set into the eye well, and finished with a wood wedge but no attention to grain of the wood. Handle grain very not right. Ugh! but overall the finish is good enuf.I imagine I will rehang the ax with a longer or conventional size handle some time in the future, or as needed. My ax came working sharp, and you could hit the ground running and chopping with this ax. Ax handle is untreated, no varnish or stain, nor oil. Linseed oil and touch of sanding, or whatever your pref. to make this a little nicer - I shaped the handle some, esp at the next where it goes into the eye.Good economy surplus buy. Rate this as a low four stars.
