First manufactured in 1946 for use by Swiss Civil Defense fire-fighting teams. The M18/46 is almost identical to the Swiss military helmet (the M18/40), only made from aluminum instead of the traditional and much-heavier steel. The aluminum offered a much-needed reduction in weight while still providing plenty of protection against falling debris. Painted in the bright, unmistakable Gloss Yellow adopted by the National Civil Defense Corps of Switzerland.
Brand new, placed into long-term storage until recently discovered. An excellent conversation piece, and a must-have for any first responder collection. A great find for re-enactors or movie-makers. This could easily be repainted to resemble a military helmet, only with much less weight.
