First and foremost, the DS Progidy improves upon the limited capacity of the original 1911 with a double-stack design that delivers 20 rounds of 9mm firepower. Despite the extra payload, the polymer grip frame still fits comfortably in the hand, aided by full-diameter stippling that provides solid purchase. It's not bulky, it's not unwieldy, and it still just feels…right.

Not to be outdone, the DS Prodigy features a 5" stainless steel, match-grade, bushingless bull barrel that delivers a higher level of precision and accuracy than the original, while the trtium front sight and blackout serrated rear sight give you the tools to put your shot right where you want it. This Competition model also adds in an integral compensator with single top port that redirects gas upwards, reducing muzzle rise and allowing for faster follow-up shots.

If you'd like to add a red dot, the DS Prodigy will happily accommodate one thanks to the AOS Agency Optics System. The Pistol comes from the factory with a Hex Dragonfly plate, and Springfied has assured us that additional plates will also be available.

Rounding out the package are nice extras like front slide serrations, undercut triggerguard for a high grip, and a black Cerakote® finish that delivers the highest level of corrosion resistance possible.
