Rated 5 out of 5 by Big Lou from Always a Great Choice for a Young HunterI have used Rem. 22-250 PSP for a first deer rifle hunt for my wife & kids. My daughter was 8 when she shot her first deer. My son was the same age when he shot his first deer as well. Both used the same Ruger 22-250 I purchased over 20 years ago. They are adults now, my son has a small framed girl friend that wanted to get into deer hunting. So we let her use our 22-250 for her practice and first deer hunt. She shot a nice 9-point buck at our South Texas family ranch this passed Dec.at about 85ydrs... My years of experience with the 22-250, 55grain Rem. round has been as follows; it hardly makes a exit wound on a deer. Also you won't have a blood trail to follow. The shot has to be right in the vitals to make a clean kill for deer and small to medium hogs. My sons girl friend made a clean shot right behind the shoulder on her 9-point buck. It ran about 50 yards and dropped in its tracks. There was no blood trail and my son located the 55grain bullet on the opposite side of the bucks shoulder between the hide and meat. This round is more devastating on coyotes & bobcats which I have personally taken over the years. Its a great varmint round to say the least and a great round for the young first time deer hunter.
