Rated 3 out of 5 by j2011 from Faithful to original, except qualityI owned the original version of this backpack, and I vacationed all over Europe with it. Excellent, functional little piece of gear- held my camping stuff many a time. I loved that little ruck, and I've been looking for a replacement for a long time. So I was pretty excited when I saw this clone, I ordered two immediately. First the negatives. The material is noticeably thinner than the original, and I have my doubts if it will stand half the abuse of the real deal. Second, the ruck straps are not of the same heavy duty construction as the real surplus ones. Finally, the buckles and strap tips are made of cheesy steel, one came off in my hand while filling the pack and nearly all were rusted. Now the positives. This ruck is a true clone to the original in terms of layout and dimensions. This makes it an excellent package for lighter duty use. The fabric that it is made of, while not truly the weight of the original military, should be good enough for day trips or light camping. Also, there are all the handy pockets I remember, and the ruck straps are good enough- certainly better than some of the stuff at the big box stores. Finally, the price is right. Seriously, less than twenty for a brand new pack. What more could you want? Recommend for short term camping, day trips, or kid's pack.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Tim64 from Waste of Money!I was extremely happy when I finally received the rucksack. However my joy was short-lived when some of the stitching came out where the shoulder straps are sewn to the bag. Very cheap made product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by PJMCI Inc from Good deal for the priceThe Mil-Tec Canvas NATO-style Rucksack is a good deal for the price. The canvas material and the workmanship is a is great. However, the metal tips and clasps on the pocket closure straps are made from steel instead of brass and are either anodized or parkerized black finished. Right out of the plastic shipping bag, they had considerable rust on several tips and clasps. I was very disappointed that they were not brass. I ended up sanding, masking & painting the metal parts. To use brass instead of steel for the hardware might have cost the manufacturer a few cents (ȼ) more and that would have increased my rating to 5 stars.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mike from Looks great. Will as we started to transfer our items from the old packs to these new one's Eva notice all the eyelets on the closure for the main bag are rusted .I had noticed the rust on the some buckles after opening the box but figure no big deal I'll take care of that later with some viniger but hick it's everything metal it would take hours to take care of this properly so will be calling and returning these tomorrow I hope . A real disappointment .

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mike from Looks great. It does look the part only time will tell .Stitching looks good other than the fact on the cover flap they stitch the reinforcing pad for the buckles and molle strips on from the insides so the weakest point of a machine stitch if tension is not perfect is the underside which in this case is on the top .plus a few rusty spots on the 3 buckles which ran be remedied with some viniger and oil the test comes this week end .

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ed Graham from A good versatile ruck. Water resistant, but it will soak through over time. Buckles are easy to work with. A good hunting pack, hiking etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bear43 from Very Similar to MilitaryThe product description states it is a NATO-style pack, and it is truly that. Having owned a military issue pack I can note the differences. The canvas, straps, and buckles on this pack are of lighter material than military issue. They are of good quality though, just a little lighter, but keep in mind that military issue also sees tremendous abuse. The layout of the pack is exactly like the military issue packs with the same compartments and everything. The shoulder straps for this pack far exceed the military issue though. The military issue packs have straps that work in conjunction with web gear while this pack does not require that. The shoulder straps are decently padded and so far have proven reasonably comfortable. Overall this is an excellent pack for the money.
