These Italian Military Collar Tabs (aka "gorget patches") are issued to the elite Granatieri di Sardegna (English: Grenadiers of Sardinia), a legendary regiment dating back to the 19th century. A great way to individualize a pack, coat or bag. Not to mention a cool military collectible packed with history.
The History of the Grenadier.
The term Grenadier was originally used for a soldier trained to throw grenades. As the original grenades (first seen in wide European use in perhaps the 17th century) were incredibly heavy, short-ranged, and often hand-crafted, the duty inevitably fell to the strongest and most experienced men in the regiment. This led to the title Grenadier being associated with an elite level of skill even after the actual duty of throwing grenades had become much less important.
