The classic Wedge Boot…your Dad, even your Grandpa, would recognize the profile, and probably even the color! Wedge Boots have been an on-the-job favorite for decades, and it's no wonder why. They're all-day comfortable, lightweight, durable, and the outsole doesn't collect gunk.
Our Guide Gear® Wedge Romeo, part of our new Wedge Collection of quality-built work boots, keeps that tradition alive. They're crafted from full-grain leather uppers for premium durability, with classic Goodyear welt construction, the oldest and most trusted footwear construction method. They're unlined for work in warm climates, and they feature stretchable fabric on each side of the Boot's opening for easy on/off and stretch comfort.
Goodyear Welt Construction: the Best Way to Build a Boot.
So how does it work? In short, a firm strip of leather (called the welt) is stitched to the leather upper, forming a flexible yet durable one-piece upper unit. The welt acts as a sort of “anchor layer” for the outsole, which is then stitched to the upper unit.
The finished product has two rows of stitching - one that holds the upper and welt together (typically inside the boot), and another that holds the welt to the outsole (that’s the one you see around the perimeter of the outsole).
Goodyear welt construction provides solid footing, flexibility, and allows the outsole to be replaced, effectively lengthening the life of the boot. Which means these are in it for the long haul, with comfort and support!
