This East German Pioneer Jacket was originally intended for issue to members of the KdA (Kampfgruppen der Arbeiterklasse), aka the "Combat Groups of the Working Class", a civil defense organization operating from within the GDR political machine. This is the "Summer Jacket" variant, with simple Olive Drab construction that combines classic military style with breathable cotton comfort. Great for missions around the shop or out in the wilderness. Large flap pockets provide spots for essential gear on the trail or during daily operations.
Historical Note: The KdA was formed in 1953 as a counter-revolutionary force in reaction to initial popular uprisings against the GDR government. Officially tasked with protecting valuable factory and government infrastructure against "saboteurs" and "class enemies", the KdA was most active in 1961 during the construction of the Berlin Wall. However, by the time of the protests leading to the East German government collapse in 1989, the KdA chose not to interfere, as many members now identified with the ongoing uprising.
