A rugged military outer layer with distinctive civil defense markings. The orange shoulders with blue triangles represent the international symbol of civil defense, hopefully entitling the wearer to special protection during military conflict as required by international law. This Civil Defense Jacket is part of the pre-2000 uniform for Danish Civil Defense forces, pretested by Danish civilians and military during training exercises and disaster response efforts both internally and beyond the borders of Denmark.
A global disaster relief and preparedness force.
Popularly referred to as Civil Defense (Civilforsvaret), the DEMA (Danish Emergency Management Agency) is tasked with assisting in disaster relief and preparadness both relating to natural disasters (major fires, earthquakes) as well as war or other artificial nuclear, biological or chemical disasters. Unlike many similar agencies, DEMA is organized to cooperate with UN and EU international forces to offer assistance in other countries, such as during the 2011 Fukushima nuclear incident in Japan.
