Rated 5 out of 5 by Ironclad Ike from Excellent SystemThese bases and tops to hang plates are great -- easy to set up and easy to take down. But using a Ruger .40 carbine at 20 yards, the mid-range loads blew the plates off the holders or knocked the posts down, and increasing the distance made no difference. Handguns worked perfectly, however.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Troubleshooter7 from Decently SturdyThe base and spike aren't too bad. The spike is big and sinks deep into the ground, but it fell twice. laterally, while shooting a .308 at 300 yards for only 50 rounds. This was annoying seeing as I was walking a round trip of 600 yards, twice, to pick it back up. The ground conditions I was shooting in through was a softer clay, I imagine this would be perfect in a denser soil.

Rated 3 out of 5 by The Fairfield Kid from Issues...The item holds the 2x4 well enough but the "spike" that goes into the ground should be longer. Took it out on a training excererise and after 25 rounds of 223 it started to lean to one side. You need firm, compacted soil for this to work as designed. It is well constructed, just not designed quite right. Use a really short 2x4 and it might work better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ted71 from Rugged and simpleI've used it with the corresponding top and an 8" plate. Works great and very simple to use here. I'm in the Sandhills of NE so it goes into the ground like being at the beach. Here, because of the sand, it leans after repeating hits, but the functionality is great. You will need your own piece of 2X4 lumber (4' or so). I've used 40S&W lead bullets with no ricochets from 12 yds but don't know about jacketed rounds.
