This Bulgarian Military Canteen was manufactured during the WWII era, in a period many nations were facing massive wool shortages. Wool was the typical insulator for canteens of this period, but successful substitutes were eventually found in wood and bamboo. "Coconut" style canteens like this one were issued to many Axis forces, beginning with Germany's Afrika Corps and eventually moving down to these used by the Bulgarian Army.
