Launched in 1991, the original Super Black Eagle took the shotgun world by storm—and shattered the myth that only pump guns could be relied upon in harsh, unforgiving conditions. Its exceptional build quality, unmatched ruggedness, and ability to flawlessly cycle 2 3/4”, 3” and 3 1/2” magnum shells made it the first choice of hardcore waterfowlers everywhere. But the best can always get better. So Benelli® engineers have spent nearly 10 years improving three critical areas: improved ergonomics, flawless functionality, and an updated, intuitive design. The result is ultimate reliability and absolute superiority in the most unforgiving conditions.
Developed in 1967, Benelli’s Inertia Driven system is simply the best operating system ever created. Its rugged simplicity makes it lightweight, clean-running, ultra-fast, and drop-dead reliable. Some Inertia Driven Benelli shotguns have fired 500,000+ rounds and STILL function perfectly—a testament to its unflinching durability. The Super Black Eagle 3 features the same Inertia Driven system you know and love, but with one very smart upgrade: the Easy Locking System. A spring-loaded locking detent guarantees that the rotating locking head always seats properly—even when you gingerly close the bolt or nudge the bolt handle—making it impossible to disengage the bolt.
The original ComforTech system revolutionized firearms technology by taming recoil without adding weight to the gun. By splitting the stock diagonally and utilizing shock-absorbing chevrons, the entire stock was essentially turned into a recoil pad. With ComforTech 3, the chevrons have been optimized for size and location, and the new gel recoil pad puts even more shock-absorbing material against your shoulder. Factor in a gel comb insert that cushions your cheek during recoil, and you’re looking at a system that reduces felt recoil by as much as 48%. You’ll stay on target longer, with less recovery time. Bagging doubles will become the rule—not the exception.
The SBE3 sports a number of smart enhancements to make it more comfortable and better-fitting than ever. First and foremost is QuadraFitTM system—a customizable stock system that allows easy adjustment of drop, cast, comb height, and length-of-pull in minutes. QuadraFit is a welcome change for hunters who have a hard time fitting “off-the-rack” shotguns. And, to help you out in cold weather, the SBE3 features a new oversized bolt handle, oversized bolt release, and enlarged load port make for easier operation with cold hands or when wearing gloves. The overhauled magazine cap is easier to turn at any gripping angle, and the enlarged trigger guard allow easier manipulation with gloves.
Benelli utilizes cryogenic technology to freeze barrels and chokes at -300°F. Such extreme temperatures actually change the metal at a molecular level, relieving stresses caused by the hammer-forging process and creating a smoother and more uniform surface. The hammer-forging process creates stress in the barrel steel, causing it to expand or contract unpredictably and negatively affecting accuracy. By relieving these stresses, Crio barrels move more consistently shot-to-shot, delivering denser patterns with 13.2% more pellets on target. In addition to more consistent firing performance, cryogenically-treated bore surface offers less resistance to the wad and shot charge—keeping the barrel cleaner, longer.
