Barrett REC7 GEN II Flyweight Semi-Automatic 5.56x45mm Rifle
Styled in the familiar AR configuration, it's a no-nonsense rifle you can trust with anything... including your life. This tough-as-nails rifle was designed specifically to answer the call for a low-maintenance, enhanced reliability carbine.
THE NEXT GENERATION OF GAS PISTON PERFORMANCE.
The REC7 rifle's dependability stems largely from its innovative operating system. Using a minimum number of parts, the gas piston system separates heat and powder residue from the bolt carrier and trigger assembly. The rifle runs cool and clean, reducing maintenance requirements and increasing endurance.
At the heart of the operating system is a nitrided, two-position, forward-venting gas plug that retains the piston. The piston can be accessed through the front of the gas block without removing the handguard so optical sights or laser devices do not need to be zeroed after routine maintenance.
PREMIUM PRECISION, TIP TO TOE.
The patented chrome-lined fluted gas block prevents excessive carbon buildup from operation under adverse conditions. The one-piece 17-4 stainless piston transfers energy to the anti-tilt bolt carrier. Machined from a monolithic block of 8620 steel, the carrier features an integral piston strike face.
The Barrett® Enhanced Bolt is made from high-strength 9310 steel. The bolt is designed specifically for use in the piston operated REC7, not just adapted from a direct gas bolt. The bolt's gas-ring-free design is easy to clean. Reinforced at critical areas, every bolt is proofed and magnetic-particle inspected to guarantee reliable performance.

Barrett REC7 Gen II Flyweight, Semi-automatic, 5.56x45mm, 16 Barrel, 20-rd., Gas Piston is rated out of 5 by 1.Rated 5 out of 5 by Kelly from Love. This. Gun. If you don't like Barrett's choice for irons and don't want a heavy barrel - but you want a Barrett AR -- this is the way to go.Coming in at 5lbs out of the box I swapped the Magpul MOE furniture for Hogue, threw one Magpul MBUS pro BUIS, gamma brake, Vortex dot and a BCM short keymod grip -- the whole package comes in just around 6lbs.A 6lb piston AR with that little effort? It's pretty awesome. The upper and lower lockup tight. Not that an AR has to lockup tight but I prefer to have a fit that doesn't rattle -- hence my choice of the hogue stock over the MOE.If I were to describe the gun in one word, it would be; Smooth. This carrier is smooth. The safety operates smooth. The trigger is smooth, for what little movement is needed to operate it.One important note: My firearm arrived with only one magazine. Before I purchased this firearm I checked the product description and pictures on the Barrett official website and the product brochure there said it came with two magazines, too. When I contacted Barrett I was told they stopped shipping with two magazines in October of 2015 and that the product information on their website was subject to change without notice. I'm not really sure how that applied since the product information on their website still hadn't changed, but that was their answer. I was more than just a little dismayed by the poor response from Barrett, who did eventually send a second magazine but the customer service supervisor who I interacted with was far less than polite in doing so.The firearm is fantastic but the customer service supervisor representing the company left a taste in my mouth bad enough that it is unlikely I will purchase another Barrett product again.Sadly, it is for that lone reason that I would not 'recommend this product to a friend.'That said, if someone were to buy this and not have a problem - it's a great firearm! I hope I never have to deal with Barrett customer service again, though. I've never experienced anything like that in the firearms industry before - in dozens upon dozens of purchases and interactions over decades.. not once.Date published: 2016-03-31
