ATI shook up the firearms industry by creating the original polymer AR-15…and now, they've applied their "hybrid mentality" to yet another classic design: the 1911. The result is the FXH (Firepower Xtreme Hybrid), a Pistol with the heart and soul of John Browning's original design, but with a number of new features that make it a little more modern…and a LOT lighter in weight.

Field-strip the FXH, and you'll discover that the "guts" are largely the same as the classic GI 1911. Likewise, the feel and proportions are about as you remember them. But that's where the similarities end. First and foremost among the enhancements, the FXH features a lightweight-yet-rugged polymer frame complete with metal inserts to support the slide rails, fire control housing, and mainspring housing. Additionally, the stainless steel slide has been ported, further reducing weight.

Unloaded and sans magazine, the FXH weighs in at just 27.5 ounces, which is about 13 ounces lighter than the average GI 1911. But that's not the end of the innovation.

Weight reduction is only one part of the equation.

The FXH also sports a number of upgrades typically reserved for higher-end pistols, including a 5" match-grade barrel made from 416 stainless steel that delivers accuracy well beyond its price range. The polymer frame features integrated finger grooves that let you grab on tight. Plus, the FXH comes standard with a red fiber optic front sight, and the slide is cut for Glock®-style sights, so you've got some options. Add in an adjustable trigger, ambidextrous thumb safety, and skeleton hammer, and it's a real winner. Innovative, accurate, well-made…and it's STILL priced like a "starter" 1911!
