Reviews
SKS Tri-rail Scope Mount, Matte Black is rated 4.3889 out of 5 by 54.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Economical but at a price I read all previous reviews beforehand and they were a big help. Requires a LOT of milling/fabricating to make fit. I'm not a metal smith by any means. But I'm not a complete novice either. Instructions tell you to only remove material from front prongs(area). This is mostly true. Had to remove 1/8"-1/16" material w/a small diamond file and then had use Dremel to remove a little material from receiver pin hole once the mount would slide forward enough for pin holes to align. This all took me about 1-2 hours. I went slowly. Fitting as I went along to avoid removing too much material at one time. Once mount would slide forward enough for pin holes to align, I used my Dremel and a straight, round diamond bit to widen pin hole and the slot at the bottom of the pin hole til the pin would go through. I left mine tight enough that I had to knock the pin thru for the last 1/4". This all made a very snug fit. The only thing I don't like is even after being very careful fitting all this together, it left a thumbnail thick gap along the receiver/mount cover where it meets the receiver sides. I don't see how I could have made it fit w/o a gap w/o compromising the tight fit. For $17.99 and a little work it fits my needs to a "T". Just don't expect a "plug-and-play" type of part.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as expected As with all parts that are added to an SKS, some filing and grinding are necessary to get the proper fit. It is NOT an out-of-the-box usable part. Too many variables on the SKS have to be addressed. If you are not handy like this, take it to a gunsmith and have it fitted professionally...and don't forget a shell deflector. Ejected cartridges could damage your optics. Once installed, the unit functions as expected. Good part for the money and well made.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A SNUG FIT IS THE KEY After hearing a few people tell me these mounts dont hold zero pretty good, i was iffy. But after fitting it to my chinese sks, im glad i got it. Use small files and take your time with the install. I fitted mine over 15 times. The tighter the fit, the better. So tight that you tap the pin in with a rubber mallet. The ability to have optics + still use the open sights is nice. 10 shots to sight my scope in, and after 150 rds + being handled and sat down it was still dead on. The only 2 thing is that the swinging pin BARELY misses the mount for the side rail. it goes, but its tight. And there was some tan(ish) colored solidified stuff where the spring sits. it was easily scraped out of there with a screw driver though. REMEMBER TO CLEAN PART AND GUN BEFORE FINAL INSTALL. metal dust is no good for firearms.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, great price, great product concept. As stated in the description, it may require 'grinding' of the front points to make work properly as it would not fit straight out of the box. The lock pin would not push through the guide until 'trimmed'. I performed minute reductions at a time, numerous attempts, and the final attempt seemed to be too much, and now will have "play". As a result it will rely on the screws on the side of the mount for stability. Not good for a scope mount! I purchased a ~$40 holographic scope/sight (Cheap) for the primary sight, but will enjoy the see through ability for the open sights that this mount offers (which is the main concept that I purchased for -dual option). So, overall, for the PRICE,for an SKS, to throw lead for plinking...its not a bad product. Nothing but 5 star's for Sportsman's Guide product, service, and price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still allows you to use your open sights Nice tight fit after minor filing work! I had to take 1/16th off of this receiver cover to make it fit and then found the hidden bonus; the section below the tri-rail is hollow and allows you to still use the original sights on my SKS. Everywhere I read, I was told there wasn't any good solution for an optic on an SKS, but I think that this proves them wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit if you work at it With about 30 minutes using hand files and a Dremel, I had this scope rail fitting tighter than the original Norinco receiver cover. I suggest you replace the sharp-edged side bolts with short M4-.70 socket head bolts or setscrews. And use thread lock on everything. Stay away from this and similar SKS covers if you are not confident in basic metalwork. Overall a great price for an SKS scope rail which allows for a proper custom fit and has side bolts to reliably hold zero.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from reciever&scope mount the receiver rail did not require much filing to fit to my rifle and everything operates like it should very good rifle part.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good price, a great deal of work. The scope mount arrived quickly and well protected in the box. A good friend of mine who is a gun smith helped me prepare the scope mount to the SKS. The only problems were with poor machining. When the scope mount was machined it was not properly installed in the fixture and was not squared correctly. The locking pin hole at the rear of the mount was at an angle so it needed to be rebored straight through. Because of the boring problem the two angled levers at the front were not of equal length. There was a great deal of work involved but when we were finished the scope mount looked original. The 4 screws and nuts were effective holding the mount in place securely reducing scope movement. For someone with experience using machine close tolerances, this will be an interesting project. With little or no experience the cost of paying a gun smith would be prohibitive.
