Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Price I could find This was the best price I could find on an Alpha M-65 field coat. Some years ago, I had gotten a surplus issue M-65 coat, and it was far and away my favorite work jacket. It seemed to be that 'just right' weight, that didn't make you sweat too much on a warmer day, but was still warm enough on a chilly day. This one seems to be made of about the same fabric, but there are a few changes to the coat, compared to my (probably) 20 year old surplus one.First off, the negative, the main front pockets are not as deep as the original. I do not know if they changed the military specs, and all the M-65 coats have the shallower pockets, or if this is something unique to the Alpha. Either way, I used to be able to easily carry a pair of gloves in one pocket, and leave the other empty for whatever I needed. Now, that same pair of gloves makes one pocket feel stuffed full, so they are definitely not as deep. I think they are the same width, they don't just go as far down. Also, my surplus one was made in USA, this one is imported. While this does not mean it was not built to the same standards, it surprised me a bit, as I thought my old one was an Alpha, and it was USA made back then. Now, the changes for the better: This jacket has inside pockets added. One looks to be for a cell phone, as it is large enough for a smartphone, and has a velcro tab at the top center of the pocket to keep larger items (like a cell phone) from falling out, yet keeping it quick and easy to access. The other inside pocket, is about the same size, but has a full zippered closure on top, so pretty much nothing can fall out of it.Most of the rest of the jacket has stayed the same. The material thickness and strength seem similar, the zippers and snaps seem similar, as well, which is good. My close to 20 year old coat still had 100% perfect function from both, and I can hope to get the same from this one. I also like the way that they still have the zipper come 'most' of the way down, with the very bottom closed with a snap (and drawstring, if you prefer). This makes for a good casual motorcycle/atv/horseman jacket, as it can open up a little at the bottom, for freedom of leg movement, and the little extra 'flaps' of fabric that extend down provide extra weather protection. I also like the hood hidden in the collar. This is not a heavy hood for warmth, so much as just a head covering. I think it helped in camouflage if you were in the military, but for me it works great if caught in a surprise rainstorm. I sprayed Scotchguard on the hood, just to add a little extra rain resistance. I also like the little 'tabs' that extend out of the cuffs, fold them out when on a motorcycle/ATV/horse, and they give extra weather protection for your wrist, covering that little gap that often forms where the sleeve ends, and a glove starts. All in all, I really like the coat, and if it lasts half as long as my GI original, I will be extremely happy with it. I normally wear a large coat, but ordered this in a medium, and I think it is every bit as big as a standard 'large'. If you have the cold-weather liner that buttons inside this coat, it snugs up the fit a bit, so keep that in mind. My wife says my old ratty coat is going in the trash, which moves this up to my new favorite midweight work coat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Got a surplus liner for it & learned it's not exactly mil-spec. The real m-65 liner is bunched up in it due to the inside buttons being off by a little bit . My only real complaint is that it is made in China! I thought for the price that I would get an honest to God made in the USA product but oh well. All in all, it is a great jacket for the price & will definately keep you warm for extended periods just like the original.
