Back for round 2! Everything you loved about the original HDS-5... like the 5" full-color screen, GPS waypoints, and innovative charting features... it's all here. But this time around, Lowrance® went back to the drawing board to create a simpler, faster, more intuitive interface that makes the HDS-5 Gen 2 one of the easiest all-in-one units to navigate on the water today! And, it's sized perfectly for smaller crafts like kayaks.

Get yours with your choice of map bundle: Nautic Insight™ Maps for detailed U.S. Coastal water coverage, or Lake Insight™ Maps for U.S. inland and Great Lakes coverage. It's compatible with Navionics® chartcards, too, so you can add more maps at any time.

The HDS-5 Gen 2 comes available as a stand-alone unit (great if you already have a compatible Lowrance transducer, or would like to add another interface to your existing set-up), or with your choice of 50 / 200 kHz transducer (for deep water / offshore use) or 83 / 200 kHz transducer (for water 900' or less). Lowrance HDS - 5 Gen 2 Fishfinder / GPS Chartplotter with Lake Insight Maps 83 / 200 kHz Transducer is rated 3.5806 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Reliability is suspect Purchased unit new in 2013. When the unit works, it works well, and controls are easy to use and intuitive. The problem is that it will sporadically exhibit strange behaviors, requiring either a soft and/or hard reboot and often a full software upgrade/reinstall. I've had the unit either go black or refuse to boot up a half dozen times in the past year. It currently has a problem where it randomly loses GPS satellites, requiring a hard reboot to reacquire satellites.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fair Product. Have always liked Lowrance products but this one is the exception. HOWEVER, I am not very good on a computer and I CANNOT get the last two software updates to install in this unit!! I also have an HDS-8 GEN 1 and HAVE NOT had a problem installing them into that unit.. WHY??? If the updates were easier to install, I would have given this unit 10 STARS!!!!!!!!! Soooooo, I have not been able to update the unit, is this my fault? If you want to keep me as a customer, you better help me with this problem!!!!!!!!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent product for my boat I purxhased this FF/Chartplotter a couple of months ago for my 21' SeaRay Laguna CC. I installed the HDS 5 myself and have been quite pleased with it performance. I fished on this boat in the SF bay and ocean; I love the efficiency of this unit. I would recommend it to others and plan to purchase another HDS in the near future because I desire a larger screen/viewing area.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay product not easy to I have had the unit two years now and #1 the price was to high, 2nd if you don't know how to use it it is no good. I am liking it better as I learn it. Why not have a good instruction video.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Remarkable I purchased 2 HDS-5 Gen II units along with Structure Scan and a network cable about 3 months ago. It takes a little getting used to, but I am very pleased with the operation and display.
