LMTD 18th Century Italian Flared - mouth Flintlock Pistol Replica. A detailed collectible LOADED with history!

Lesson: Flintlock pistols were so called because the lock uses a flint to strike sparks into the priming pan when the trigger is pulled. A small amount of gunpowder in this pan is ignited, which in turn ignites the main gunpowder charge in the barrel, firing the lead ball.

Both the main charge and the ball were loaded from the front, or muzzle, of the barrel, after which the priming charge was poured into the pan... all very time consuming! Often the priming charge would burn but fail to ignite the main charge, hence the expression flash in the pan!

LMTD 19th Century French Percussion Dueling Pistol Replica. Accurately detailed replica of the classic "score settler"!

Caplock or Percussion Lock pistols were so called because the lock system causes a percussion cap to be struck by the hammer when the trigger is pulled. Powder inside the cap ignites and this in turn ignites the main powder charge, which propels a lead ball from the barrel.

Most (though not all) caplock firearms were loaded from the muzzle of the gun (muzzleloaders). The Caplock was a great improvement over the flintlock as it was less susceptible to weather-related misfires.

The original of this pistol was made in Brescia, Italy in about 1825. This non-firing version is accurately detailed and shows typical Italian craftsmanship... a great costume or conversation piece!

LMTD The Double - barrelled Pistol of Napoleon Replica. Eye - poppingly authentic detail for serious collectors!

The original of this side-by-side double-barreled Flintlock Pistol is from Napoleon's private armory and bears his insignia on both sides of the grip. Made by Gribeauval, Napoleon's personal gunmaker, the pistol originated in the French gunmaking center of St. Etienne in 1806. Unusual for its day, the double-barrel configuration provided a decided advantage over its single-barrelled counterpart, given the notoriously slow reloading procedure for flintlocks.
