KA - BAR Knife USMC Military-Style Full - Size Straight Edge Knife is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from OFFICIAL USMC KABAR COMBAT KNIFE Very similar to the one I owned in 1968 except for the sheath, which is made in Mexico on this model and not as substantial as the earlier ones. Many reviews of this style knife appear on various internet sites, so I won't repeat what is said there; check it out for yourself. Some of the reviews are pretty lame by folks with little to no real experience, others are more relevant. The reputation of this knife is largely built upon historical use and not necessarily practicality. The point of the blade is really above the axis of the center line of the blade which makes it less efficient for piercing (the most likely use for a combat knife). This is easily corrected by a bit of judiciousgrinding. The open seam between the hilt and the blade invites the collection of blood, salt water, etc. This should be filled with solder, as well as the central opening in the hilt. Protect the leather handle with several applications of polyurethane. #15 o-rings from the plumbing section of your hardware store applied to the grooves in the handle can improve the grip if you want to give this a try. Rebuild the sheath, as the one made in Mexico is not going to stand up to everyday use in the field. Otherwise, there is some satisfaction in owning a piece of history. Beyond that, better combat knives are currently available, but usually at an increase in price. Good knife for the money if you make these modifications.
