HQ ISSUE Steel Hurricane Lantern is rated 2.9333 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice lantern for the money Very good lantern for the price less than half what other kerosene lanterns go for I used it three times now works great

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I finally assembled it. Instructions are not the clearest. String to tie mantle was so brittle it broke so used sowing thread to tie it to opening. Bought 1 quart of fuel from WalMart. Need matches to make it work. Doubt if the glass is air tight.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I can't get them to work the pressurization pump can not put up enough pressure for the lantern to work. One has a leak in the tank. I finally got one to try working, when the mantel came open at the bottom. I ordered parts from another Co. to try getting at least one (of the two I bought) to work. I have a 40 yr. old Colman that is better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Buy Returned after opening. The globe/glass does not fit tight and will rattle and allow wind into the mantles. Asked about what Coleman mantle would fit and was told made in China and none would fit. What good is a latern if you can't go out and buy the mantle if you our out using it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk / Scrap metal Glass was 1/2 inch too short, pressure gauge did not work, pump fell apart inside the lantern and it's top was crossthreaded. Wasted my time putting this junk together and then to return it so they can take it out back and put it in a dumpster.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wast of money. Gauge does not work, mantle blew out, can not find replacement mantle. NO RETURN ON THIS ITEM. Total wast of time and money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lantern, with a little work. I was pleased by how shiny and pretty this Sea Anchor lantern is. I had read horror stories about poor packaging from other retailers, but Sportsman's Guide sent the lantern packed in its own boxes. The globe was intact, as was the enameled shade.I needed to do some fettling before it was ready to go, however. I expected to, for the price I paid. The tank has residue that needs to be rinsed out with fresh fuel (maybe oil to prevent corrosion?) The pressure gauge on the tank cap was incorrectly calibrated, so I had to disassemble it and move the gauge piece to match the needle. The pump cup was off center, so I had to loosen the nut and slide it a little to get the pump to work properly, plus add oil to the pump cup. And the bail bolts were crooked until I straightened them out (very carefully) with pliers. It lights and runs beautifully, though. Having been used to Coleman lanterns, I expected to be able to extinguish the lantern by turning off the fuel flow. However, this one won't go out completely until you depressurize the tank with the bleeder screw, as per the directions. I guess that's why it says Kerosene Only on the cap and tank.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The HQ lantern is a good lantern for the money. I like the feature of having two ways to light the lantern. I had to soak the leather pump gasket to get it to seat properly. This is common with this type of gasket. I had no problem afterwards and easily lite the lantern with both methods. The light is brighter then I expected when compared to other Kerosene lantern I've had experience with. I purchased the lantern for the times of power outages.
