Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hurricane Lamp - Hope I can Light It I received my hurricane lamps in perfect condition and the product seems to be of good quality. I have not operated the lamp yet hoping maybe Sportsman Guide will send me instructions on lighting the lamp I can understand.First, no mention of burning off the mantle in the step by step instructions or on the mantle package.Second: per the instructions step 8: "Lighting of the hurricane lamp is by using Rapid Preheating, depress Ignition device (226) and put a lit match, keeping jetting for about 50 seconds. Close to the small opening at the bottom of the pipe to light the kerosene."Step 9: "Pump while lighting with ignition Device (226) to keep the pointer aimed at the red line. Use igniting Needles (300) to clean ignition Device if it can't jet.Step 10: "After jetting for 50 seconds, unscrew the wheel (111) downwards slowly and the lantern will be lit. Then close ignition device.I don't know, maybe it is easier than it sounds, but I would appreciate it if Sportsman could send me an email with the lighting instruction in the King's English.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great price if you don't mind tinkering. These are Sea Anchor lanterns not a Petromax. I would only buy one if you don't mind doing some tinkering. My lantern had a cracked globe & the generator leaked, both of which S.G. customer service replaced for me a no charge. If you need info. for this type of lantern, look up Petromax parts diagrams, instructions ect. on internet for help. Muffler mender paste works to keep the burner for the mantle and the tip (jet) on the generator tight, they loosen after the lantern has been lit a couple of times. Wheather you use muffler mender on the ceramic burner or not, GENTLY screw it back in if it becomes loose as it will break VEARY easily. I have to say though that these are a very BRITE 500 candle power lantern and if you don't mind the tinkering they are a pretty good kerosene lantern. Coleman Collectors Forum is a good place to start with for information on these lantern.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I finally assembled it. Instructions are not the clearest. String to tie mantle was so brittle it broke so used sowing thread to tie it to opening. Bought 1 quart of fuel from WalMart. Need matches to make it work. Doubt if the glass is air tight.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I can't get them to work the pressurization pump can not put up enough pressure for the lantern to work. One has a leak in the tank. I finally got one to try working, when the mantel came open at the bottom. I ordered parts from another Co. to try getting at least one (of the two I bought) to work. I have a 40 yr. old Colman that is better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hurricane Lantern 100 % Junk!
Date published: 2015-06-29
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Buy Returned after opening. The globe/glass does not fit tight and will rattle and allow wind into the mantles. Asked about what Coleman mantle would fit and was told made in China and none would fit. What good is a latern if you can't go out and buy the mantle if you our out using it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk / Scrap metal Glass was 1/2 inch too short, pressure gauge did not work, pump fell apart inside the lantern and it's top was crossthreaded. Wasted my time putting this junk together and then to return it so they can take it out back and put it in a dumpster.
