Details & Specs

Gold - layered Liberty Nickel Cufflinks. Style you can "take to the bank".

Did you know: Nowhere on the Liberty Nickel did it say the denomination was 5 cents? Not a big deal, right? Well, no, except the size and design were similar to the $5 gold piece of the time... a fact not lost on enterprising sorts who would paint the nickel gold and pass them off as $5 pieces.

Nonetheless, Charles E. Barber's Liberty Head design (1883-1912) is a stunner, and these Cufflinks showcase the beauty. Just the trick to set off your fresh-pressed best! Measure approx. 7/8" diameter. Certificate of authenticity included.

1883 "First - Year - of - Issue" Gold - Layered "Racketeer" Liberty Nickel Pocket Knife.

Once a con game, now a treasured collectible. The 1883 Liberty Nickel was called the "Racketeer" nickel because of its similarity to the $5 gold piece. Con artists of the time found they could layer the nickel in gold and pass it off as the $5 gold piece. The word "cents" was eventually added beneath the Roman numeral V on the coin to stop the fraud. Own a piece of "racketeering history" embedded in this distinctive Pocket Knife.

The real deal:
  • Authentic first-year-of-issue, gold-layered 1883 Liberty Head Nickel composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel
  • 2 7/8" stainless steel blade
  • Classic style with embellished woodgrain finish handle
  • Diameter of coin: 21.2mm
  • Includes a certificate of authenticity.
